If you don’t understand Russian, don’t worry. I have transposed the instructions for you in normal English below.
Pattern Instruction for Knit Edging
Cast-on multiples of 8, +1 loop for symmetry.
Row 1: don’t knit the first stitch, and pick it up as if it was a purl st, k 7, move your working yarn to the front and pick up the next stitch as if it was a purl st to move it onto your working needle, unworked. Rep till end.
Row 2: as per row 1.
Row 3: don’t knit the first stitch, and pick it up as if it was a purl st, k 7 st, with each st getting 2 loops around the needle instead of 1 (as you’d normally would), don’t knit the first stitch, and pick it up as if it was a purl st, rep till end.
Row 4: k the first st, TO yr knitting. Knit that st again. Put the st you’ve just made back to your left needle and knit it again.Put the st you’ve just made back to your left needle and knit it again.(i.e. you’ve now kind of knit that 1 st 4x.) Now, TO yr knitting again (so you’re ready to go knit that whole row…) Next: you’ll need to drop each of the 7 extra loops, so you’ll get extra loops. This is how you do this: you’ transfer every second st onto the other needle (without twisting) and drop the other ones. Voila. You’ll have 7 long stitches now. Put these 7 st back onto your left needle so you can knit ‘m. Now we’re going to pinch them altogether: put your needle through all 7 st at the same time in the purl way, and make a knit st. Work the little short piece of yarn to the top so your knitting gets that shell shape.
TO your work again. We’re going to repeat what we just did: make 4 st out of that top ‘shell’ st. Then we knit next st, and repeat that process till we get another 4 in a row. Ect.
Row 5: knit all stitches.
Row 6: purl all stitches.
TO = turn over
Your Yarn Choices
You want to choose a yarn with a clear stitch definition, so no mohair for example. Drops Merino Yarn would be a suitable yarn for this project.
