Hexagon Shoulder Bag- Free Crochet Pattern

Crochet Patterns

Fun bag to take along when you go over to a friend for an afternoon. The finished crochet bag is approx. 12 x 14 in. (30.5 x 35.5 cm) excluding handles.  This means it holds just enough stuff  for going out and about, but It is too small to be a market bag.   If you’d line the bag, it would also make a suitable book bag.

The bag is made using classic ‘granny square’ crochet stitches, and therefore super easy to crochet.

The hexagon pattern is ideal to make this into a sunny and colorful bag. It is ideal to use up left over yarn of various color, albeit that you will need at least 1 ball of each color, and 2 of the central color.

Gauge

One Hexagon = approx. 6 in. (15 cm) across.

This is one of those patterns where you will have to check your gauge. If you don’t you may end up needing 2 balls instead of one of each color and you will have lots of left over.  Or you’ll have to cheat with the colors of course, and make adjustments to the pattern.  The easiest is to use a smaller hook if your trial project turns out bigger than intended by the pattern.

Bag Size: Extra-wide Hexagon Shoulder Bag?

If you want a wider bag, you can adjust the pattern by making it exactly 2x as wide, so that the front top will feature 4 hexagons instead of two. If you are interested in doing this, I can help you figure out the details.  Tip: also see the crochet Lily Bag pattern and the classic large market crochet bag pattern below.
