Racerback dresses are all about being relaxed and laid-back. They suggest: ‘It’s summer’. So, now that it’s Spring, it’s the perfect time to use this free racerback dress pattern and make one. This girls racerback dress pattern is not mine but is designed by Adrianna from Crafterhours.
Adrianna’s dress for her young girl is definitely is a fun summer dress style. It is a simple knit dress with a fun gathering at both the front and the back of the dress. And since you can find it here, featured at the FineCraftGuild, you can be sure that this is an easy sew. I had a look at the actual pattern, and yes, I can do this. That means, you can do too!
I love the chevron and the cheery colors that Adrianna choose, but this will work as a perfectly casual and comfy summer dress in any kind of knit fabric.
The Racerback Dress Sizing
Maybe she felt guilty for not writing for a while to her readers, but she made this pattern FREE of charge, and scaled it from baby (12 mths) all the way up to 8 T !!!). Thank you, Adrianna!
Dress Making Materials
1 yard of stretch knit fabric is enough for all sizes, and you can get away with less for a baby. See pattern for details.
From the leftover (yes, you’ll have lots) you can make something cute to match the dress, like a fun little drawstring bag or so.

Nice to know: This pattern comes from a good heart (besides an experienced seamstress). She and her blog co-writer are currently working on a project to send simple dresses (like this easy racerback dress) to little girls in Africa.
That’s how this dress came about. Isn’t at wonderful?! I love that.
