Baby Blanket Crochet Stitch Pattern - to get that lovely texture

The crochet stitch pattern for this baby blanket has a lovely texture but is really easy to create: Sk next ch, 2 sc in next ch. The main blanket is then surrounded by a scallop edge.

The Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern

Blanket Size: 32" X 32" (82x82 cm)

Materials - What you'll need to make this blanket

You'll need:

7 skeins cotton yarn (150 yards(137m) ; 100 g) in off-white or cream color.
I hook (9 or 5.5mm), or size hook needed to match gauge --> Pick the right hook by using our handy Crochet yarn and hook sizes - chart.
5 yards (4.6m) ½-inch-wide silk ribbon (approx. 1.3 cm) in chocolate brown.

Pro color tip: choose any two matching colors you like for the yarn and ribbon -- that also befit the baby room's color scheme.

Gauge

12 sts x 13 rows = 4x4" (10x10 cm) in single crochet stitch pattern.

How to Crochet the Main Blanket

Ch 91.
Row 1: (RS): 2 sc in 3rd ch from hook. (Sk next ch, 2 sc in next ch) across to end; turn (90)
Row 2: Ch 1, sk first sc, 2 sc in next sc; (sk 1 sc, 2 sc in next sc) across to end; turn (90)
Repeat Row 2 until your blanket is 30" (76 cm) high.

How to Make the Crochet Edges

Round 1 - Create the foundation: attach yarn and ch1, make a sc 88 evenly across each edge and make 3sc in each corner. (348) (Note; the stitch count matters as you'll need the right number of stitches to complete the scallops neatly.)

Round 2 - Make the scallops: ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 sp). (Sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1) across to corner. (Dc in same sc, ch 1) 2 times more
(corner turned). Repeat motif for next three sides of blanket, ending with a dc in same sc, ch1. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of 1st ch-4.

Round 3 - Extend the scallops: (Sk ch-1 space, 5 dc in next dc, sk ch-1 space, sl st in next dc) around entire edge of blanket. Fasten off.

To finish:

Weave ribbon through dcs and tie in bow at corner.
